Did the Hourglass Run Out on Watches?

Over time, I've accumulated a lot of watches, both personally and for my store.  I probably own eight watches of my own, half of which were presents.  In fact, my first watch, an Elgin, was given to me by my mother, who actually worked at the Elgin factory in Illinois.

Of course, I haven't worn any of my watches lately.  Like in the last year.  What's the point?  I have my cell phone in case I need to know what time it is.  Or my Blackberry, or whatever electric device I'm currently carrying.  I think most people do the same thing these days, especially younger people.  The only real purpose a watch seems to serve is as a status symbol.  In that respect we've come full circle from the early days when a gold pocket watch was a status symbol to the Rolex of today.

However, you might want to consider that down the road, like gold pocket watches, those time pieces will become collector's items.  Now's the time to get them cheap to hold for the future!
